Paphos and Ayia Napa sit at opposite ends of Cyprus: the quiet, archaeological west and the beach-and-nightlife east. Getting from one to the other means crossing the whole island, about 170 km and two hours on the motorway. There is no train, the bus takes four to five hours with three changes, and a hired car is a long day behind the wheel. A booked car does it door to door for a fixed €205. How far is Paphos from Ayia Napa
About 170 km by road, following the coast the whole way: the A6 from Paphos to Limassol, the A1 past Larnaca, then the A3 out to the east coast. In a straight line it is closer to 130 km, but the road bends around the south of the island. There is no shortcut through the middle; the Troodos mountains sit in the way.
How long does it take
Around two hours by car, without stops. Cyprus motorways carry little traffic in the European sense, so the drive is steady rather than slow. Add ten minutes leaving Paphos or entering Ayia Napa on a summer evening, and more if you stop for lunch in Limassol or a swim at Aphrodite’s Rock on the way.

By bus. Intercity coaches connect Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca and Ayia Napa, but no single line does the whole trip. It is Paphos to Limassol, Limassol to Larnaca, Larnaca to Ayia Napa, with waits between them, and the last coaches leave in the evening. Each leg is cheap. The whole thing is a day, and it ends at the Ayia Napa bus station, not at your hotel. Timetables change between summer and winter; check the operators’ sites before relying on one.
By hired car. Fine if you were hiring a car anyway. Remember that Cyprus drives on the left, the motorways are toll-free, and a one-way hire between Paphos and Ayia Napa usually carries a drop-off fee.
By booked car. Two hours, the driver at your hotel door at the agreed time, the price fixed before you leave: €205 for a Mercedes E-Class with up to four passengers and four suitcases, €310 for the V-Class minivan with six. Stops on the way are not a problem; say so when booking.

The road is the best sightseeing route on the island, and with your own driver you can use it:
- Aphrodite’s Rock, 25 minutes out of Paphos, right on the coast road. Ten minutes for the photograph.
- Kourion, the Greco-Roman theatre on the cliff above the sea, twenty minutes before Limassol.
- Limassol for lunch at the Marina or the old town, roughly halfway.
- Larnaca salt lake and the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque beside it, just before the last motorway stretch.
The advice that saves the trip: fly into the right airport
Most people who make this journey are doing it on arrival or departure day, and that is the version to avoid. Ayia Napa is 40 minutes from Larnaca Airport (€75) and nearly two hours from Paphos Airport (€200). If your hotel is in Ayia Napa or Protaras, fly into Larnaca. If it is in Paphos or Coral Bay, fly into Paphos. A cheaper ticket to the wrong airport rarely covers the extra transfer both ways, plus four hours of your holiday in a car. The other good version is the split holiday: a few nights in Paphos, the drive across as a sightseeing day with stops, a few nights in Ayia Napa, and a flight out of Larnaca. Then the two hours are the point, not the price.
