Larnaca or Paphos airport: which one to fly into for your resort

Fly into Larnaca for Ayia Napa, Protaras, Nicosia and Larnaca itself. Fly into Paphos for Paphos and the west coast. For Limassol either works — it sits almost exactly between them, 70 km from Larnaca and 65 km from Paphos, with fixed transfers from €70 whichever you choose. Everywhere else, the wrong airport costs you an hour or two of driving on both the arrival and departure day.

The two airports in one paragraph each

Larnaca (LCA) is the island's main gateway: more airlines, more routes, more frequencies, and the one with realistic options if your flight is cancelled. It sits on the coast south-west of Larnaca town, with the motorway starting at the door. Arrivals is busy but efficient.

Paphos (PFO) is small and, on a quiet arrival, quick — you can be through and outside in twenty minutes. Fewer airlines serve it and the schedule is seasonal, but for the west of the island nothing else comes close.

Read the table across a row and the decision usually makes itself. Ayia Napa from Paphos is €170 and nearly two hours; from Larnaca it is €50 and forty minutes. That gap, doubled for the return, is worth more than most flight-price differences.

Limassol: the genuinely open case

Limassol is the one destination where both airports are reasonable, so pick on flight schedule and price rather than geography. Some detail that helps:

• From Larnaca, the western suburbs cost slightly more (€80 to Zakaki and Ypsonas) and the eastern hotel strip slightly less (€70 to Germasogeia and Amathus).
• From Paphos it is the mirror image: €70 to the west of the city, €85 to the east.

So if your hotel is on the Amathus strip, Larnaca has a small edge; if you are staying near My Mall or Zakaki, Paphos does. The difference is €10–15, not a reason to rearrange a holiday.

When the "wrong" airport is still right

Three cases where the table does not decide it:

A cheap flight into the wrong end. A €120 saving on the ticket covers the extra transfer more often than not. Do the arithmetic on both legs before you dismiss it.

Split holidays. Land at Paphos, spend three days in the west, move east, fly out of Larnaca. Different arrival and departure airports frequently price well and save the long drive back.

Awkward hours. A 02:00 landing is a non-event with a booked car — flight tracking, driver waiting, no night tariff — while a late arrival with no plan is worse at Paphos, where the taxi rank empties earlier.

The practical stuff for either airport

The meeting itself is quicker by phone: call or message the driver on WhatsApp or Telegram once you have your bags, and he tells you where he is standing. The cars park about five minutes' walk from arrivals, and in Cypriot summer heat you would rather walk that once. Working out whether a cheap flight into the wrong airport pays

The arithmetic is simple, and worth doing before you buy the ticket.

Take the transfer difference across both legs. Ayia Napa: €170 from Paphos against €50 from Larnaca — €120 each way, €240 for the round trip. So the Paphos ticket has to be more than €240 cheaper for the whole party before you are actually ahead.

Protaras works out at the same order of magnitude: €175 against €55, so €240 across two journeys. Limassol is the exception — the difference there is nil, so buy on flight price and schedule alone.

Then add the time. Two extra hours in a car on arrival day and two more on departure day is four hours of your holiday that no ticket price mentions.

Paphos, marginally — 65 km against 70 km — but Larnaca's drive is slightly faster on the motorway. In practice they are equivalent: from €70 either way. Choose on the flight, not the distance.

Is Paphos airport a good choice for Ayia Napa?

Only if the flight is much cheaper or the schedule leaves you no option. It is 150 km and about 1 hour 45 from PFO against 40 minutes from Larnaca, and you pay the difference twice.

Can I fly into one airport and out of the other?

Yes, and it often works well for a split holiday. Book each transfer separately for the airport you are actually using; the price follows the route.

Which airport is faster to get out of?

Paphos, usually — it is a smaller terminal. Larnaca handles more traffic but is well organised. Either way the 60 free minutes of waiting start when you land, so a slow baggage belt is not your problem.
