The drive along the south coast

The A6 is the best road on the island to arrive on. It leaves the Paphos area, runs east above the sea, and delivers you into Limassol from the western side. Open, fast, and — because Cyprus motorways carry nothing like European volumes — reliably 50 minutes.

You pass the turn for Kourion and the Episkopi bay on the way; if you have time and want a twenty-minute stop at a Greco-Roman theatre on a cliff, this is the route that offers it. Tell the driver when you book.

Three destinations sit at the western end and often surprise people: the cruise port, the Limassol Marina area sits central, and the business district towers along the seafront are between the two. If you are arriving for a cruise departure, the €70 tier is the one that usually applies.

Paphos Airport is small, which helps

PFO has a single compact terminal. On a normal arrival you can be through passport control and outside in twenty minutes — which is pleasant, and also means the driver may be waiting sooner than at a big airport.

The quickest handover is a phone one: call or message on WhatsApp or Telegram as soon as you have your bags, and the driver tells you where he is parked — about five minutes' walk from the terminal exit. Otherwise, look for your name on a sign near the arrivals exit. Either way the car is already there: we watch the flight, so a two-hour delay simply moves the pickup, and the 60 free minutes of waiting count from the actual landing.

The bus and taxi versions

Airport shuttle. A shuttle bus links Paphos Airport with Limassol. It is much cheaper and works well if you are travelling light and landing in daylight. It runs to timetable, serves a handful of stops in the city, and does not cover late arrivals — check the current schedule before you rely on it.

Rank taxi. Available on arrival, metered, and unpredictable over 65 km — the evening tariff band makes the spread wider. On this route the fixed fare is the safer number.

A Mercedes E-Class takes two large cases plus two cabin bags, up to four passengers. A minivan takes six large cases and up to eight passengers.

Limassol pulls a particular mix of traffic on this route: cruise passengers with full-size luggage, business travellers with one bag, and families relocating with far more than either. If you are in the first or third group, the van is not an upgrade, it is the correct vehicle.

Limassol as a base

Limassol sits in the middle of the island, which is its main practical virtue. Real fares for the usual onward trips:

Troodos is the case where a car with a driver genuinely pays. Public transport barely serves it, mountain roads are narrow and slow, and there can be snow on the passes in winter. Forty euro each way beats a day's car hire if you only want one such day.
