Larnaca Airport to Limassol: transfer, taxi, bus and car hire compared

Larnaca Airport to Limassol is 70 km and takes about 45 minutes on the A1/A5 motorway. A pre-booked private car costs from €70 for a sedan and from €100 for a van, agreed before you fly; the airport shuttle bus is cheaper but slower and stops running in the evening; a taxi from the rank is metered, so you learn the total when you arrive. Book the car and the fare stops being a variable.

This is the busiest run our drivers make. Here is what actually happens on it.

The drive

You leave the airport, join the motorway and stay on it. Cyprus motorways rarely jam — there is no ring road to crawl around, no tunnel to queue for. The car does not stop between the airport and your door, so 45 minutes is a real 45 minutes, not an optimistic one. Even in the worst case — heavy rain, an accident on the A1 — the drive tops out around an hour and twenty.

The one thing that does add minutes is the last kilometre. Limassol stretches roughly 20 km along the coast, and the western suburbs are a genuinely different destination from the Amathus hotel strip.

Your four options

Pre-booked private transfer. One car, your name on the booking, a fixed fare. From €70 in a Mercedes E-Class, from €100 in a minivan. The price is set when you book and does not move afterwards — not for traffic, not for a 02:00 landing.

Taxi from the rank. Available whenever a flight lands, no booking needed. The meter decides the fare, and Cypriot taxi meters step up in the evening. On a 70 km run that difference is not small, and you have no way to check it in advance.

Airport shuttle bus. The Limassol Airport Express connects both airports with the city for a fraction of the private fare. The trade: fixed departure times, a set of stops rather than your address, and nothing at all late at night. With two suitcases and a pushchair it stops being the cheap option and becomes the hard one.

Car hire. Sensible if you plan to drive the island. Remember that Cyprus drives on the left, that the desks add a queue to the end of your flight, and that a hotel in central Limassol will usually charge you for parking the thing.

What the fixed price covers

• The whole car — no shared seats, no extra passengers picked up on the way.
• Meeting on arrival and help with the bags.
• Flight tracking: if you land two hours late, the pickup moves with you.
• 60 minutes of free waiting from the moment the aircraft actually lands.
• Child seats and boosters, free, when you ask for them at booking.
• The same fare day or night. There is no night tariff.

Two things sit outside it. Waiting away from the airport — when the car is held while you finish something — is €50 per hour, and the driver tells you before it starts. Non-standard luggage (golf clubs, skis, a wheelchair, a bike box) needs a heads-up so we send a car it fits in; the price for it is agreed in advance, never sprung on you.

Why the Limassol fare is not one number

Limassol is priced by area, because the drive from Larnaca genuinely differs:

Meeting your driver at LCA

The fastest version is a phone call. Message or ring the driver on WhatsApp or Telegram once you have your bags — the number reaches you before you land — and he tells you exactly where he is standing. In Cyprus heat that is worth more than it sounds: the car parks about five minutes' walk from arrivals, and doing that walk once, in the right direction, beats hunting for a sign.

If calling is not an option, that is fine. The driver waits inside, near the exit from arrivals, with your name on a sign. Either way he is there before you are — we watch the flight, not the schedule.

Luggage, honestly

A Mercedes E-Class takes two large cases (around 20 kg each) plus two cabin bags. The minivan takes six large cases. Four adults with four big suitcases do not fit in a sedan, whatever the boot photo suggests — book the van and arrive in one car instead of two.

FAQ

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Nothing you need to manage. We track the actual landing time and move the pickup automatically; the 60 free minutes start when the wheels touch down, not at the time printed on your ticket.

Where exactly does the driver wait?

Ideally on the phone: call or message on WhatsApp or Telegram when you clear customs and he will direct you straight to the car. Otherwise he stands with a name sign near the exit of the arrivals hall, and the car is roughly five minutes away on foot.

Can I pay the driver by card?

Yes. Visa or Mastercard directly to the driver, cash in euro, or a payment link we send you before the trip. Choose when you book, change your mind on the day.

Is there a night surcharge?

No. The fare you agree is the fare you pay, at 06:00 and at 02:00 alike. That is the main practical difference from a metered taxi on this route.

Can I get a child seat?

Yes, free of charge — but it has to be requested at booking. The seat is fitted before the car leaves for the airport, so a request made on arrival cannot be honoured.
